Forest in a Bottle [RTX-ON Edition] | Unreal Engine 5

So someone in the comments of my other indoor terrarium videos once asked (jokingly) ‘Where’s the 10 hour version of this?’ Here. Here it is.

So just for fun, here’s a little bit of lofi jazz to keep the vibes chill this stressful holiday season – or whenever you happen to be listening to this. Beats for sleep, study and chill – you all know the drill by this point...

From a more technical standpoint, this also doubled as a way to go back to these scenes and fix things up – especially with what I know now… Things like proper refraction and motion blur with translucent materials, reflection accuracy, etc… For the original cinematics, check out the rest of my channel!

These loops were all rendered out in real-time using Unreal Engine 5 – with a combination of self modelled assets and Quixel Megascans. Nanite was used for the meshes and Lumen for dynamic global illumination.

RTX ray-tracing was also utilised for the reflections - although in some places - the differences aren't super obvious unless you're really looking for it... I've included the Lumen and the RTX versions of this scene for reference.

The water was done as dynamic paint vertex displacements in Blender, before being imported into UE5 using Alembic geometry cache.

The bamboo forest wasn't actually too different under RTX reflections - not a lot of shiny objects to really make too much use of it...

... the Lumen version looks almost identical ... maybe even a bit better? Although it may just be the slightly different angle...

Here the differences are more visible - mostly in the highlights and detail reflections...

RTX reflections help with trickier lighting setups like this grotto scene...
